the post that was 9 months in the making

The deployment officially ended Friday night.  Let's all just take a moment to take a deep breath and let that settle in.  We made it.

Poor Dan had to take four different flights over the course of 36 hours to get home.  His last plane didn't arrive until dinner time.  Mabes spent a large majority of Friday asking if Daddy was really coming home or sneaking up behind me and screaming at the top of her lungs, "DADDY. COMES. HOME. TODAY!" and scaring the bejeezus out of me.

I was excited too and we ended up at the airport about 45 minutes earlier than needed.  Which was long enough to have to wait, but then his flight was delayed by about 30 minutes.  Awesome.

Mabes spent her time caking lip gloss on her lips (you can see the tube in her hand in the first photo) and showing me just how excited she was...
So excited
...dancing around the airport yelling for everyone to hear that Daddy was coming home...
Dancing in excitement
...pressing her face against the window looking for his plane...
Waiting for the plane
...and then dancing around some more.
Keyed up
There was a point where she was getting a little out of control.  She was acting like some crazed frantic person and I believe she may have swallowed a penny from her little change purse.

Bad Parent Timeout: She isn't dead yet and I have decided that I'm not going to worry about the penny unless I have to.

Seconds before I received a text that Dan had landed I was busy yelling at her.  This subdued her mood a little, but she was still excited:
Finally the moment came when he rounded the corner:
Worth the wait.

After a stop at Jimmy Johns (as if there was any place he would want to go) and a visit with our good friend, Jessie, it was time to come home and play (Dan and Mabes) and lay on the couch and do nothing (me).
Dan bought Mabes a purse from a market place in Dhaka.  Excited doesn't even begin to describe her reaction.  She is her Mama's girl when it comes to a love for purses.  Plus this was another method to carry her lip glosses around.  Girlie likes her lip gloss based on her need to put it on roughly every 30 seconds.
  New purse

As for Fred he spent his evening replacing our stockings with our underwear that he had stolen from the dressers:
  Oh Fred 2
Mabes saw what he did, laughed and then said it made her nervous.  She never elaborated but we think she was worried about Santa coming and her stocking not being where it belonged.  We put the underwear back and rehung the stockings.  She gave Fred a talking to about doing things that made her nervous.
  Oh Fred 1
Happy Monday!

  1. So glad to see that video of Dan and knowing that he is really home. I cried. I need to know that my kids are all safe and I'm only his MIL.

  2. So glad Dan made it home safe. Flick did the same thing with our underwear. Maybe they have the same schedule.

  3. Yea for homecomings! Glad you are all together safe and sound.

  4. YAY! Dan's home! I hope yall are getting tons of family time in.

  5. Welcome home, Dan! Woohoo! Thank you to whole family for your service to our country and the sacrifices you make for us!
