spa birthday

A very good friend of Mabes turned six a few weeks ago.  Her parents threw her a spa themed birthday and it was so much fun and very cute.

They had the dining room table set up as a manicure station.  They had plastic bowls with some colored "spa rocks" and bath salts in them for the girls to soak their hands.  There were all kinds of glittery purple and pink nail polish colors to choose from and even stickers for their nails.  Mabes was in heaven.  In the living room they had set up little plastic chairs and tubs (with more "spa rocks" and bath salts) for pedicures.

Once the mani and pedis were complete they laid down a large blanket and wrapped the girls' hair back with little towels and applied a honey and yogurt face mask.  Mabes did OK with this part, but was not happy when they put cucumbers over her eyes.  She claimed that they were very cold.  Regardless, she looked adorable.
Mabes Spa BDay Party
For lunch the girls dined on pizza and chips and dessert was a fondue station where they were able to dip angel food cake and brownies into chocolate.  They also got to decorate a cupcake that they were able to bring home in a little zebra cupcake box.

The highlight of the day were the little plastic champagne glasses that were filled with sprite.  When you dropped cotton candy into the glass it would fizz and turn the drink blue or pink (or purple) depending on the color of the cotton candy.  The girls thought that this was amazing and very fancy.

tiny voice, big attitude

While looking through old videos, I came across some from when Mabes was very little.  It is hard to imagine that she was ever so young.  These ones of her talking, I will admit made me cry a little.  They also made me laugh, a lot.  Even with a limited vocabulary, Mabes little attitude shines through.  Some things will never change.

Reasons My Son is Crying: THIS is the best thing on the Internet.  As a Mama of two young girls, I can relate and find this hysterical.

Because I can't post without at least one photo/video, I give you this little blast from the past.  My very own Reasons My Daughter is Crying:

Because I wouldn't let her eat a peanut butter sandwich because she was too young and we weren't sure if she had a peanut allergy. Also she had just been fed a ridiculously large lunch of fruit, baby food and milk.

month four

Harlow 4 Month 2
 Stats: Month Four
  • Length: 23 1/4 inches (15th percentile)
  • Weight: 14lbs. 8oz. (50th percentile)
  • Head Circumference: 41 3/4 cm (75th percentile)
Likes/Dislikes/Milestones: Month Four
  • Still loves to cuddle and be held.  Bouncing is her favorite thing.  (I think she still is prone to an upset belly and the bouncing helps.)
  • Does not like to be hot.  She cries when the sun is on her, when it is too warm in the car, if it gets warm in the house, etc.  Since we have had such nice weather lately I have been letting her sleep in nothing but a diaper to try and keep her comfortable.
  • Rolls onto her side, but still can't roll over.
  • Lifting her head up higher and for longer periods of time during tummy time.
  • Has started to revert back to waking up in the middle of the night again.  This is due to her lack of eating during the day and thus being very hungry at night.  She doesn't eat as well because she is very curious about everything going on around her and will constantly stop nursing to look around.  If I wear the nursing cover she thrashes about wildly, as if she were a cat being thrown into a burlap sack.
  • Loves taking baths.
  • Adores when people talk to her.  Especially her big sissy, who she loves to be around.
  • Lots of drooling and chewing on things.  Which means we have entered into the dreaded teething stage.  She has also started sucking on her two fingers (just like her big sissy did as a baby).
Harlow 4 Month 1
Mama's Favorite Moments: Month Four
  • Listening to her laugh.  I don't think I will ever stop loving the sound of her laughter.  Especially the deep, belly laughs.
  • When she falls asleep laying on my chest.
  • The way she follows her sissy around the room with her eyes and gets so excited when Mabes talks to her and plays with her.  It amazes me that at four-months-old you can already see how much she adores and looks up to her older sister.
  • In the early morning hours I put her in bed with me to nurse and when she is finished the way she cuddles right up next to me and sleeps while I lay there just watching her.
Sisters Month 4
Big Sister Interview: Month Four
  • What is the best part of being a big sister? Having my little sister around to cheer me up when I am sad.
  • What is the worst thing? When I hear her cry because it makes me sad for her.
  • What is your favorite thing to do with Harlow? Play with her and hug her and making her feel better when she has shots.  I have to watch out for my little sissy.
  • What is your favorite thing about Harlow? The way she smiles at me.
  • How do you help with your sister? By getting her blanket and playing with her to keep her happy.
  • What did you learn about your sister this month? She loves to chew on her fist and is really noisy when she does it.
  • What do you think Harlow is going to love to do when she gets older? Play unicorns and dress up with me and hug me.
  • Anything else you want to add? I want her to love fairy tales as much as I do.  Also I hope she dreams about unicorns, but not princesses.  Only I am allowed to dream about princesses.

month three

Harlow 3 Month
Stats: Month Three (almost a month late posting)
  • Length: unknown because there wasn't really any time to pull out the ruler and measure her
  • Weight: I didn't step on a scale and weigh her and when I thought about it, I realized she is almost 4 months and figured I would just wait until her next doctors appointment
  • Head Circumference: see length note
Likes/Dislikes/Milestones: Month Three
  • She still loves to be held all of the time and prefers to in an upright position more than laying down.
  • Has proven herself to be a great little traveler, though she does cry a little more when I first put her in her car seat now.  Possibly a little PTSD from riding all over the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Moved up to size 2 diapers.
  • Has started to really discover things around her and will make eye contact more.
  • Loves to be talked to.
  • Laughs.
  • Firsts: met Gramma Oakes, Great Gramma and Grampa Harlow and many of her other aunts and uncles on her Daddy's side.  Met her Uncle Sven, Great Granny, Great Gramma Wanda, Aunt Sandy, Uncle Denny, Aunt Rae and cousin Debbie as well.  Took her first long road trip up to Pennsylvania.
Mama's Favorite Moments: Month Three
  • Listening to her laugh.
  • Also the cute way she sticks out her bottom lip when she is unhappy about something.
  • Watching her face light up when she sees her Daddy on the iPad when we Facetime.
  • How talkative she has become.  Including when I am trying to feed her and constantly have to remind her we don't talk/coo when our mouth is full.

  • What is the worst thing? She cries all the time.  It makes it hard for me to think.
  • What is your favorite thing to do with Harlow? I like to dance around with her when there is music playing, moving her arms and feet.
  • What is your favorite thing about Harlow? That she is sweet and cute.
  • How do you help with your sister? On our trip I checked to make sure she didn't have snot coming out of her nose.
  • What did you learn about your sister this month? Babies have yellow poop if they drink breast milk.
  • How tall do you think Harlow will be? When I am six-years-old she will  come up to my neck.
  • Anything else you want to add? I know her favorite colors are going to be pink and purple and blue.  I am going to make her my assistant when she grows up when I am a gymnastics person, have my bakery and am an artist.
